DARE TO BE A SLAVE: GADGET ADDICTION

Image
Modern slavery might not only be a fiction when technology and gadget take over all aspect of human life. Lack of skills in time management such as being late raising in the morning, finishing certain assignment or being late for some appointments seem to be very common and excuse-able. What is it all about? It might be caused by culture of convenience or “easy life”. Perhaps, that is the technology which always introduces as well as promotes easiness in our way of life. We become more on gadget-oriented – gadgets which always offer unending pleasure. Even, we might be enslaved by those kinds of tools. There is no more critical consideration that the tool is just “the tool” – simply an object. Have we ever had a critical insight that we could use the tool to improve our quality of life as a human? There is technology inside the gadget. Technology may bring effectiveness in our way of life but it does not mean to easily control and to rule out our life. We should be the subject rather

THE FRIENDSHIP

I start to think. What does it tell me so far? It is not just the skills -- the language skills. When I met Jihan (Turkey), Komiko (Japan), Hussein (Iran), Lara (Taiwan), Tony (Korea), Angelo (China) they brought me a message of friendship. Dealing with people is not finished with communication skills. In fact, they need someone to listen, or simply just "being with them". One time, it was so surprising that made me "twisted", my classmate Steve (Korean) approached me. I just listened and smiled at him: "I want to speak in English fluently". Then, conversation ran smoothly. It had been for several days I found Steve a very quiet person. However, I was wrong! One of our teacher, Mam Rosanna challenges and "calls" us to practice more in Writing class. Thanks to her appreciation even for little idea coming from our mind. Let's write! Yes. The writing class has made me become more responsible with my ideas. Don't be afraid to write! Mam Luz

Today I have been completing month of transition. Finishing 20-month of reconciliation is not an easy job. Hit it of with ups and downs, but I have enough guts to deal with that. As I listen to my surroundings finally I find "cash in trash". That's me anyway with some close friends who are trying to come to my space. Yes! What a beautiful friendship. It doesn't with the words, and I need to be skillful enough to "twist". I did it. I have made it. Amazing! I met Steven, a 14 years of age Chinese boy, in a different world. He was very talkative -- too young to know the price of S-Class Mercedes Benz. Steve, a Korean businessman, just starred at him and shouted,"You will know when you grow up!". My classmate, a Chinese diocesan priest Father Paul, gave a big laugh. I told to myself that I am very happy. On the way back home I am counting number of people flock and get trapped in public transportation. But, I am just happy and at peace. It's true.
